Greetings, I'm Jason Elkins, the President and Founder of Thumbs Up Moving Labor. Today, I'm eager to share a deeply personal story that not only inspired the inception of our company but also underscores the profound impact of intergenerational relationships.
Our journey commenced in 2010 when my brother Justin and I rallied to support our grandfather, Jack Elkins, during his transition to an assisted living home. Jack's life was extraordinary—a World War II veteran who endured nearly four years as a prisoner of war in Yokohama, Japan, an experience vividly detailed in the book "Captured Honor" by Bob Wodnik.
In his final years, Justin and I spent countless evenings assisting with his nightly routine, offering companionship, and absorbing the stories and wisdom from a life well-lived. These moments weren't just about care; they were profound learning opportunities that shaped us emotionally and practically. Our grandfather's financial support, including covering our rent, provided us the breathing space to contemplate our futures.
During this time, a glaring gap in the moving industry became apparent: the need for movers without trucks. This realization birthed Thumbs Up Moving Labor.
